ABB Power and Automation Equipment Supports Yunnan Water Upgrading Project

ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, recently announced that it will actively support the construction of the Niulanjiang-Dianchi water supplement project in Yunnan, providing advanced power and automation equipment for the pumping station of this key project to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the pumping station and help Kunming Solve the problem of urban water shortages.

“The water resources are an important guarantee for the development of the regional economy and the lives of urban residents. ABB has a variety of complete solutions in this field and is well-established,” said Luo Sen, head of ABB’s discrete automation and motion control business unit North Asia and China. Technology and products, as well as rich engineering experience, have actively participated in many major water resources construction projects in China and around the world. This time ABB provides important equipment for the Niulanjiang-Dianchi water supply project, again demonstrating our leading position in this field and Customer recognition."

The equipment provided by ABB includes 22 MW ACS6000 medium voltage inverters, as well as transformers and cables, which will be used in the construction of pumping stations for the entire replenishment project. The pumping station is an important facility for water conservancy projects. It consists of water pumps, electromechanical equipment, and ancillary buildings to provide sufficient hydraulic power for the water flow in the pipeline to ensure that the water source can be delivered to designated locations as designed.

The Niulanjiang-Dianchi water supplement project is one of the key water resources comprehensive utilization projects in Yunnan Province. It aims to supplement the ecological water volume in Dianchi Lake, improve the water environment in Dianchi Lake, and provide urban living and industrial water in the event of water supply difficulties in Kunming. The total length of the project is about 116 kilometers, and the water intake point is Deze Reservoir Hub in Qujing City, Yunnan Province. After the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012, it will recharge no less than 600 million cubic meters of water each year.

With the growth of urban population and rising demand for drinking water, the water industry has become one of ABB’s key growth industries. ABB has long-term accumulated technical advantages and solutions that are trusted by its customers. It has participated in the construction of numerous water treatment and water supply pipe network systems in China and in various parts of the world.

In China, ABB actively participates in a number of water conservancy projects including the "South-to-North Water Transfer Project." In the key project of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Beijing Hui Nanzhuang Pumping Station Project, ABB provided advanced drive solutions to deliver adequate and clean water to Beijing and the surrounding areas. In addition, ABB's core power equipment is also equipped in the entire line of step-down substations for the emergency water supply project of the Beijing-Shijiazhuang Section of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. In 2009, ABB provided core equipment for the Guangzhou Xijiang Water Diversion Project Pumping Station to ensure the efficient operation of the pumping station and the introduction of fresh water from the Xijiang River to Guangzhou to meet the domestic water needs of more than half of the city's population and ease the water supply pressure during the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Enhancing water supply security capability is an important goal of China's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" water conservancy construction. During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, it will improve the water resources deployment system of North-South deployment, east-west cooperation, and river bank joint deployment, increase water supply and reserve capacity, and promote the solution of engineering water shortages in Southwest China and resource-based water shortages in Northwest China and other regions. Problems, new annual water supply capacity of 40 billion cubic meters.
