Hand-held gearbox to see Scania and Man cooperation
At the just-concluded IAA Motor Show 2014 in Germany, Anders Nielsen, chief executive officer of German Mann Commercial Vehicles, said in an interview with the China Truck Network reporter that since 2012, both Mann and Scania have merged into Volkswagen. Afterwards, as both high-end brands in commercial vehicles, the two sides have begun cooperation exploration in different fields. Among them, Scania and Man first started extensive cooperation in the transmission of heavy commercial vehicles . Mann will gradually introduce Scania's existing transmission series into its products from 2016 onwards. The two sides will also carry out in-depth cooperation on future generations of products. This means that both parties will make more efficient use of production equipment and R&D resources to deliver better products to customers in shorter cycles.
This cooperation involves Scania's existing gearbox series and the development of future generations of products. From 2016 onwards, Man will gradually introduce the Scania gearbox in its products and integrate this gearbox in its powertrain and electronic structure.

Although there are some common components in the powertrain, it is the gearbox control strategy software that plays a decisive role in the performance of the vehicle and its degree of cooperation with other components of the powertrain. Therefore, all brands need to independently develop gearbox strategy software, which is particularly important.
