Practical applications show that if using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology to support low-power wide area IoT applications, most are only suitable for indoor environments, and need to work with relay mode, the data accuracy is very low, and the power consumption is very high. Although optical fibers can be used in wide-area IoT scenarios, this only applies to broadband terminals such as cameras. In fact, the emergence of narrow-band Internet of Things technology has attracted the attention of all countries in the world. At present, the standardization and industrialization of Narrowband Internet of Things (IoT) has already started. In June this year, 3GPP passed the core standard of narrowband Internet of Things and passed the conformance test standard in December. In our country, the standard setting work of narrowband internet of things is steadily advancing. In April this year, the Ministry of Industry held a Narrowband Internet of Things Promotion Conference, proposed to cultivate a narrowband Internet of Things industry chain. In May this year, ZTE and China Mobile to carry out cooperation based on narrowband Internet of Things protocol standard protocol verification system. In June, China Unicom launched a trial of network scale for the broadband IoT in several cities. In December, China Communications Standards Association will release a series of industry standards for narrowband Internet of Things including core networks, access networks and terminals.

From a technical point of view, narrowband Internet of Things has a wide coverage, low power characteristics, its single sector can support 50000 connections. Market research firm Mchina predicts that the narrowband IoT will cover 25% of the Internet of Things connections in the future. Should be said that due to the use of relatively simple and advanced technology, narrowband Internet of Things has four important features, namely, wide coverage, large connections, low power consumption, low cost. Narrowband Internet of Things is expected to end the "fragmentation" of the Internet of Things technologies and applications in the past.
