Saudi Arabia to build world's largest butanol plant
China Drying News: Kayan, Sadara and SAAC signed an agreement on December 26th, and the three parties will hold shares of Saudi Arabian Alcohol Co., Ltd. with joint investment. About 1.94 billion Saudi riyals ($ 517 million), Saudi Arabia built 330,000 tons/year of n-butanol and 11,000 tons/year of isobutanol plant. The unit will become the first butanol plant in the Middle East when it is completed, and it is also the largest such facility in the world.
The unit will be built at Tasnee's complex in Jubail and will be operated by Tasnee. The project is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2015.
It is reported that Cayan Petrochemical Company is a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, and SAAC is a subsidiary of Tasnee and Sadara Petrochemical Corporation.
