U.S. researchers develop new built-in sensors

Researchers at the Applied Physic Laboratory (APL) at the Johns Hopkins University in the United States recently discovered that when a problem occurs with a lithium battery, there will be a slight alternating current between the two poles of the battery. Based on this discovery, APL researchers developed a built-in sensor at the end of 2011.

It is reported that this sensor uses the power of the battery itself, and when it captures an abnormal current, it immediately triggers the battery control system to take corrective measures to prevent the battery from overheating and cause an accident in time.

It is understood that lithium batteries are the core components of electric vehicles and are also widely used in notebook computers, mobile phones and aerospace equipment. However, there are still some problems in the safety of lithium batteries. The reason is that the temperature sensor attached to the outer surface of the battery is still too slow to react, causing the accident of the lithium battery to catch fire and explosion.
