In the international tire Annual Meeting held in Singapore recently, Bridgestone announced that its working on a research project that aims by 2050 to get the tires without destroying the ecological balance of 100% of the raw materials.
The project focuses on three parts. One is to study the use of silver chrysanthemum or Russian dandelion rubber instead of natural rubber; the second is to use synthetic materials to make synthetic rubber, carbon black and rubber additives; the third is to use cellulose compounds to make yarns. Replaces polyester and nylon.
Bridgestone has set long-term and medium-term goals for this purpose. The long-term goal is to use 100% of the raw materials used for tires in 2050 without destroying the ecological balance of raw materials. The medium-term goal is to substantially reduce CO2 emissions by 2020, increase resource utilization, and improve the environment. However, Bridgestone did not give quantitative indicators.
