China's scientific fertilization coverage has reached 30%

By the end of 2007, the coverage of scientific fertilization on arable land in China reached 30%. This was revealed by Gao Xiangzhao, head of the Fertilization Division of the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the International Seminar on Research and Development of High-yield and High-efficiency Industries for Hybrid Rice.
According to Gao Xiangzhao, China’s arable land, which accounts for 9% of the world’s total, produces 25% of the world’s agricultural products and feeds 22% of the world’s population. This is a remarkable achievement. At the same time, China has used 35% of the world's chemical fertilizers on arable land, and there are long-standing problems such as low fertilizer utilization and unreasonable fertilization structures.
Since 2005, China has invested 200 million yuan, 500 million yuan, and 900 million yuan in funds for three years. A total of 1,200 soil testing and fertilization project counties have been established.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture, scientific fertilization has achieved the effect of increasing yields and incomes. At present, the pilot counties nationwide has increased the grain output by 5% per mu, the fertilizer utilization rate has increased by 3%, and the benefit per mu has increased by more than 25 yuan. In particular, in some areas with large amount of fertilizer such as Hubei, Jiangsu, and Shandong, there has been a trend of decreasing nitrogen fertilizer use.
It is reported that in 2008, the Ministry of Agriculture will further increase the promotion of soil testing and formula fertilization. In addition to expanding the area of coverage, fertilization targets will be extended from food crops to cash crops, and training will be given to large planters, technology demonstration households, and key households. Bring more farmers to science fertilization techniques.
